Water extraction and wet carpet drying in Tampa

A supply line let go under the sink. The AC drain line backed up into the hall closet. The storm pushed water under the slider. In Tampa humidity you have roughly 48 hours before wet carpet and pad start growing mold. We extract, set air movers and a dehumidifier, and check the moisture readings until it’s actually dry — not just dry on top.

Why 48 hours matters here more than anywhere

Mold needs moisture, warmth and something to eat. Wet carpet pad in a Florida house in July is all three.

Carpet pad is a sponge. When water gets under carpet, the fiber on top may look dry by the next morning while the pad underneath is still saturated and the slab beneath it is wet. That’s the mistake almost everyone makes with a shop-vac and a box fan: the surface dries, the smell arrives three days later, and by then the pad has to be thrown away and the drywall at the base of the wall has wicked water six inches up.

The job isn’t “get the water out”. It’s get the water out, then move enough dry air across the pad and slab that they hit normal moisture readings, and prove it with a meter. That usually takes two to four days of equipment running, not an afternoon.

What we handle — and what we send elsewhere

Being straight about this saves you a wasted call.

We handle: clean-water leaks

Supply lines, water heaters, washing machine hoses, fridge lines, AC condensate overflow, an overflowed tub, rain through a door or window. Carpet and pad in one to four rooms.

We handle: gray water, small scale

Dishwasher or washing machine discharge into a laundry room or hall. Extracted, sanitized, dried. Pad usually replaced.

We refer: sewage and flooding

Toilet backups, sewer line failures, and storm surge or whole-house flooding need a licensed restoration contractor with containment and drywall removal. We’ll tell you on the phone and give you a name.

Extraction

Truck-mounted vacuum with a weighted water claw that compresses the pad and pulls water from it, not just from the fiber. Pulls out gallons a shop-vac never sees.

Drying equipment

Air movers angled across the floor and a commercial dehumidifier running until readings are normal. Left on site; we come back to check and collect.

Pad and carpet decision

Clean water caught within a day: pad often savable, carpet floated and dried in place. Longer than that, or gray water: pad replaced, carpet cleaned, sanitized and re-laid.

Do this before we arrive

  • Stop the water

Shut-off valve under the fixture, or the main at the house. AC drain: turn the system off so it stops condensing.

  • Get furniture up

Foil or plastic under wood legs, or move pieces off the wet area. Furniture stain and rust marks are permanent.

  • Turn the A/C on, not off

It’s the biggest dehumidifier in the house. Run it cold.

  • Photos for insurance

The source, the standing water, the extent. Before anything is moved.

  • Don’t put a rug on it, don’t put a towel on it and walk away

Rug dye bleeds into wet carpet. Towels just get wet.

Wet carpet questions

How fast can you get here?
Within Tampa, usually two to four hours during working hours; same evening for after-hours calls. Turn the water off and the A/C on while you wait.
Can the carpet be saved?
Clean water, extracted within 24 to 48 hours — almost always. The pad is the question, not the carpet. Gray water or more than two days wet, the pad goes and the carpet is cleaned and sanitized before re-laying.
It’s been three days and it smells. Too late?
Not for the carpet, usually. But the pad is finished and we’ll want to check the drywall at the base of the walls with a meter. Call today rather than tomorrow.
Will you deal with my insurance?
We give you a moisture log, photos and an itemized invoice that insurers accept. For a claim above a few rooms you’ll want a full restoration contractor who bills insurers directly, and we’ll say so.
The AC drain line overflowed into the closet. Is that clean water?
Condensate is clean but the line often carries slime and algae. We treat it as gray, sanitize the area and recommend having the line cleared so it doesn’t repeat in August.
